5 activities in the heart of nature to disconnect and escape - Domaine Tal ar Galonn.>
What if we put some magic in the heart of winter? To dream, to marvel, to relax and to escape, we set course for a place of legends, which offers landscapes of wild beauty: Brittany. But not just anywhere: in a land of sailors and explorers, where everything is lived more intensely. A paradise for nature outings and cultural discoveries, Finistère combines land and sea, architectural jewels and sites steeped in history.
Ideally located in Rosporden, in the heart of a magnificent countryside, the Domaine de Tal ar Galonn is the starting point of a relaxing and regenerating stay. This atypical property, which offers two ultra-comfortable gîtes, is only 15 minutes from the sea, the key town of Concarneau, the medieval city center of Quimper, the white sandy beaches and the coastal paths of South Finistère.
From the castle of Trevarez to the dolphins of the island of Sein, Chantal Morillon, the founder, knows all about the activities to do to discover Finistère differently. Here are her 5 favorites to vibrate this winter... and even after!
Locronan : a magnificent medieval granite village
Considered as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Locronan has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1924.
We like its architecture and its heritage (Renaissance mansions, 15th century church), its art craftsmen, and its exceptional setting. Nestled on a mountain, this small granite town is located only 5 km from the sea. Not to be missed: the guided tours "Locronan and the cinema" organized all year round by the Tourist Office. Because with its authentic setting, the village has inspired film directors! About thirty films have been shot here, including "Tess" by Roman Polanski (1979), "Chouans" by Philippe de Broca (1987) or "Un long dimanche de fiançailles" by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (2004).
The Museum of Pont-Aven
Because Pont-Aven has hosted a thriving artistic life since 1860, the Museum presents a rich collection of over 4,500 works and archival documents, including 432 paintings. It is mainly devoted to the artists of the Pont-Aven school (Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard, Paul Sérusier...) and to the heirs of this style dating from the end of the 19th century. The Museum also regularly organizes temporary exhibitions of great quality (e.g.: Willy Ronis from February 4 to May 28, 2023).
Not to be missed: the incredible pastel on paper "Two heads of Breton women" made by Paul Gauguin in 1894, during the last stay of the painter in Pont-Aven.
Concarneau, city of art and history
Concarneau is a city that will delight young and old alike. It seduces with its medieval fortifications, its fishing port, and its magnificent fine sand beaches. A must for all lovers of nautical and seaside activities (sea walks, fishing, regattas...), Concarneau also allows, via its pier, to discover the islands of Glénan and Ouessant.
Don't miss the visit of the walled city, famous for its belfry, its cobbled streets, its granite ramparts, its picturesque houses and its old drawbridge.
Terres de Natae: a refuge park for endangered animals
Burmese star tortoise, Pinched tamarind, Chinese macaw, Asian elephant, red panda, Cape penguin, crowned lemur, dwarf crocodile, African lion, giraffe, spectacled bear, snow leopard... Since June 2022, 100 endangered species are protected in Terres de Natae, a magnificent 14-hectare refuge park with lush vegetation. Don't miss: the park offers different experiences to create unforgettable memories (e.g.: one-day soigneur, escape game, virtual reality).
On foot, by bike or even on horseback from the gîtes of Tal ar galonn there are superb hikes, through bewitching sunken paths and magnificent forests, there is the GR, and beautiful greenways to be explored in Cornouaille. Even with children! For example, close to the gîtes in the commune of Rosporden, it is possible to rent two wheels (VTT, VTC, VAE...) to go for a ride. Not to be missed: the peaceful greenway that goes from Rosporden to Carhaix (51 km), passing through Gourin. A must for an immersion in the heart of the Breton bocage.
The Domaine de Tal ar Galonn: the ideal mix between nature and luxury for cosy accommodation
The Domaine de Tal ar Galonn is above all a state of mind, a haven of peace dedicated to beauty, nature, legends and animals. An atypical place, resolutely upmarket while remaining accessible, close to the sea, but in the middle of the countryside. With, on the spot, all around the cottages, horses, ponies, giant rabbits, a goat, a billy goat, the cows of Queen Elizabeth II, the dog Fernand, Scarlett the ferret and the cats Coyote and Rulann, but also a multitude of chickens and ducks of ornament. With, always, a guarantee of comfort!
The accommodation, which is intended to be warm and magical, is divided into two units:
Tyr Na Angus Bed and Breakfast
Designed to accommodate up to 10 people, the place is dominated by the warmth of wood and caressed by natural light. What was originally a stable has become a gite whose services will delight nature lovers.
It has 5 bedrooms, each with their own atmosphere, a richly equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, beautiful bathrooms, two terraces and all amenities.
The La Tanière studio
Alone or as a couple, travelers can also rent La Tanière for romantic or relaxing purposes. The studio was not named at random: it must be a cozy refuge and give the feeling of keeping at bay all the external aggressions that one came here to escape. It is equipped with a large balcony, two kitchen areas with all the necessary equipment, a television, unlimited internet access, and books.
A beautiful adventure that is written in family
Initially a specialized educator and head of the ASE (child welfare), Chantal Morillon then had the ardor of the ambitious, of those who see the project first before the difficulties of implementation. In 2011, she bought a 3 hectare property on which stood only the ruins of a stable and an old house to be completely restored. It will have to be given a second life! Helped by a friend and equipped with a strong will, she will spend 7 years to imagine and build her atypical cottages. 70% wood and 10% stone: this is the formula. The place must be aesthetically unique in the world and offer a capacity of reception almost without equal in the region. His daughter, who is 3 years old at the beginning of the work, will grow up with the project, will invest herself in the work and will become, with her mother, the new soul of the place.
